The lion is a well-known symbol of courage, integrity, and honor- all spiritual principles we seek to embody in recovery. As with the wolf, the lion also knows how to balance working with others while maintaining independence, even leadership. What's important to note about the lion is the way they live in courage. In hunting, they are patient. Yes they are fierce, but they are thoughtful in their pursuits. They observe and stay quiet for as long as it takes before they feel it is the perfect moment to act. The lion also doesn't kill for fun. Their hunt is to provide for their pack. There are important lessons in these actions- integrity requires patience and an understanding of the intentions behind the decisions we make. This takes a steady inventory of self-awareness because what seems like good intentions of courage can often times be diluted by selfishness. Courageous actions stem from an honest heart.
